On #ShairSalgirah 2016 a look back at all our achievements.
On 5th April 2011 I gave the idea of a hash tagged group to some friends who were fond of shayri and tweeting it.
A few minutes On 5tth April #shairoftheday was born with
#WasimBarelvi as our first#ShairOfTheDay
I have tried to collect as many initial tweets of #shair in 2011 as I could. You can see them here
Later it was shortened to #shair as it took too much space.
The handle @shairoftheday was created in November 2011 along with this blogspot to take care of our growing family.
This week we invite everyone to share their favourite experiences in their #shair journey .
It can be via their own lines, turban do or serious verse.
Via their favourites by friends
And it will culminate in a tarahi mushaira on Sat with the famous misra Jigar Moradabadi
“Apni apni zabaan hai pyaare”
Everyone please join in. You don’t have to be worried about being precise. As long as we learn via fun it’s fine
#Shair is not just a hashtag it’s now a part of many people’s lives.
Majrooh Sultanpuri ji lines
Main akela hi chala tha janib-e-manzil magar
Log saath aate gaye aur karwaan banta gaya
has become our theme verse.
And it is still unique as the only forum where people have interacted with love and sincerity for so many years.
A journey that was started by a few poetry enthusiasts became a movement and laid the grounds for many other such platforms to appear.
Earlier I made schedules and tweeted them. It was easy to tag a few people. But word of mouth ensured that our popularity grew and it was impossible to tag people. Then I made a blogspot website for it on which I posted schedules. As you can see 194666 pageviews – 270 posts since Nov 2011.
Shair of The Day
Pageview chart 194666 pageviews – 270 posts
From the beginning it was a team effort and a few people have always been there working to ensure its success.
Initially I worked 6-7 hours on it. We would tag people to bring it into people’s consciousness. Everyone worked hard ut as I had the most time in those days I worked 7-8 hours on it daily. Tweeting and tagging. We would trend very often in those days. I used to put all the tweets on the blogspot. I would storify them for all to read and enjoy. Now I don’t have so much time to devote to it but my day still starts and ends with it.
You can check some of our popular stories on the links below.
Then one of our most successful events have been celebrating the talent of our own poets
#Fav10 the theme for 19th Nov 2011
This brings back a lot of memories and nostalgia and some pangs of remembrance
You can check more here
We celebrate the talent in our #shair family #OurShair
We also had posts dedicated to individual members
#OurShair Sandeep Bhutani
#OurShair #AshishJog #Gustaakh #TahirZaidi
#OurShair #AbidZ #Nayab #Musafir
#OurShair SKB & Kuhu
#ByMe has been another successful initiative of #Shair
I would collect all tweets related to a subject in one place as in those days you didn’t have sites dedicated to theme based poetry
#hausla Theme of the day 24th November 2011
I tried to revive traditional poetic forms on #shair
#Baitbaazi 7th April 2012
Tarahi Mushaira on #shair 20th Nov 2011
#Dilli (delhi) theme of the day on 3rd May,2012 in #shair
I remember Ghalib’s birth anniversary in 2011. Suhel Baxi, GAurav Sharma and myself must have tweeted 300-400 verses each.In those days there used to be a thing called twitter jail and we all spent time in it for exceeding our quota of tweets.
#Shair gave us a family. we all have forged friendships via it, individually and collectively. I think there must be at least 500 people who have made friends after meeting on this platform.
And for so many of its members I am Apa or Ma’am. I have met many of them and some I want to soon.
We are indeed blessed
My personal journey was enhanced by #shair. As an ex teacher for me information was very necessary. I needed to learn and know about what I was tweeting and then I would tweet on poets and their characteristics for benefit of members.
#shair introduced to me to so many poets.I soon started writing on them and the poetic themes. This led to the start of my writing career. People started recognising me and calling me for Literature festivals.
Once I started writing I went back to my own subject history and combined the two. Writing about history and heritage and combing it with verses.
Although of the original members I am the only one still tweeting many new people have joined us and now they carry the legacy forward.
A new initiative has been started by Narpati Pareek where we tweet Hindi poetry under dual hashtag of #kavya and #shair. He sets the topics
#shair is about meeting of minds and hearts and may it continue forever Inshallah.
Some messages from #shair members

Aadab arz hai! My 3-year association with #Shair has been poetically enriching.
Being a part of the #shair group is extra special as my twitter handle @arzkiahai is self-explanatory. In line with my passion for writing Urdu poetry and lyrics I deliberately restrict myself to poetic tweets. Hence most of my followers and whom I follow are Urdu poetry-lovers or Bollywood, Loolywood celebrities.
Apart from gifting me fellow Indian friends online, Shair has also helped me establish a connection with the Pakistanis poetry lovers across the globe. The forum has also helped me expand my poetic horizons. It introduced to some of the Urdu poets and their works whom I had never heard or read before. #Shair along with @ Rekhta has provided me the much-needed impetus that helped the growth of the poet in me. It helped me learn the nuisances of poetry writing.
The honest `daad’ coming from the members always inspired me to write better. I am honoured to have received maximum appreciation for some of my below couplets.
Mil jaye jo fursat to padh lena kabhi mujhko
Adhuri hasraton ki mukammal kitab hu main 🙂
Khush unhein aaj dekhkar itni tasalli huyi
Ke taseer meri duaaon me aaj bhi hai 🙂
Waqt-e-rukhsat wo tanha gaya tha lekin
Jate hue jane kab wo mujhe sath le gaya 🙂
Kal shab unko khwab me dekha
Khwab me bhi hijab me dekha 🙂
Gar ye bat ho to kya baat ho
Ki phir unse pehli mulaqat ho 🙂
Raha barson muntazir main jinke jawabon ka
Wo khat jo maine aaj tak bheje hi nahi
The best part is that this forum has got the distinguished `meyaar’ in terms of membership and the approach. Members belong to varied cultures yet everyone speaks the common language of Urdu poetry. I believe with continued tutelage poets like me will be able to take our works to poetry-lovers beyond Twitter as well. The camaraderie I share with some of the regular members is virtually like a family. I eagerly look forward to stepping out of this virtual world to interact someday with the fellow Shair members in real life. Whatever worth I am, I assure all my support and contribution in taking this forum to greater heights. Proud to be a part of this forum. Congratulations to Rana Madam and all the members on the 6th anniversary! Long Live Shair family! J Muzammil Bari Aurangabad, Maharashtra @arzkiahai

Back in 2012 I was introduced to #Shair by @anandnama and through him to @iamrana. It opened a new world of fascinating people, magnificent writings, amazing lives.. a new language, a new world. I was hooked and how..
#Shair became my solace, my peace of mind, my refreshment after a day of hard work, traffic, mental fatigue. Oh yeah I was hooked.
And then in 2014 when I was going through a personal loss and learning to cope with it, it became my place of refuge, where I just learned and wrote… It helped me manage my grief and kept me sane.
I don’t know most of the #shairfamily personally but you have no idea how much you helped me when my near and dear ones were struggling to. So a big big thank you to all. You have kept me hooked.
Many many happy returns of the day, may you grow, help and spread knowledge and happiness for ..forever. #shairsalgirah
I never learned urdu in my school, college but my love for urdu poetry was since beginning. When i came across twitter, i met #shair family. This is a institution in itself. Urdu is taught here in simplest way. Every week i learn new urdu words & know about different urdu poets. Today due to this great initiative, i write urdu poetry. I thanks to all the members of #shair family for the support. Last but not the Least, i thanks to humblest human being, Rana Aapa for her eminent effort & beautiful discovery. THE #SHAIR. Many Many Returns Of The Day

#Shair

It has been 6 years on twitter and with Shair. How time flies ! Shair was pioneer in establishing a platform for Urdu Shairi and evoking interest of thousands in poetry on twitter. Shair gave us wings to fly into the expansive world of beautiful urdu poetry. As a lover of hindi poetry, connecting with Rana Aapa and Shair of the Day on twitter was like a virtual homecoming. Being part of Shair family was healing, engaging and therapeutic for many.
Thank you Aapa ! For creating this beautiful platform for our online family , working relentlessly in sharing your vast knowledge of history and poetry with everyone, for your large heartedness, for touching each life tenderly with love and care, embracing them all, giving everyone unconditional love in last 6 years , keeping all together, on twitter and beyond.

Main ye soch raha thaa, jab #shair ke paanch saal ho jaane ki baat ho rahi thi merii aur Rana ji ki.. ki #shair ke saath kaisa raha silsila… Kahaa’n izafa huaa.. kya paa liyaa?
To jawaab nein malamaal kar diya.
The rest of this beautiful post is on

ke liye mera message: I started using Twitter actively in June 2011 on a request of a friend who wanted me to learn the nuances of poetry. He told me about community. I’d been writing poetry for many years but my verses were amateur. Here, I didn’t know what was. I used to tweet my verses with the when one day Rana ma’am told me what it was about. Since then I’ve been a part of the family. I’ve learnt a lot from this family. Abid sir, Tahir sir, Fazal, Dev and Ashish ji helped me in becoming a better poet (I think I can call myself a poet 😀 ) Not only my writing improved but I also got to know about many renowned poets along with people like me who are fond of writing. The shair schedules helped me in writing on varied topics. I met so many lovely people like Anu, Inder, Gazi ji, Mithelesh, Usman, Aruna ji, Faizal, Mukta, Poonam, Rajni, Roshni who all have always appreciated and encouraged me. I’ve received more than I’ve given to family. And while writing this I realized that I’ve been a part of this family since the early days. Thank you Rana aapa for making this family. Cheers to us and Raana aapa!
Rango se bhari sari ye bazm hai hamari

Kuchh husn ki malikaen , hum jaise qalander bhi .
Us bagban (@iamrana) ki le len ham aaj sab balayen,
Phaila hai jiske dam se ye shayri ka fun bhi ..
Shair salgirah mubarak ..
