The Fairy Tale Black Forest

From the time one enters Freiburg it seems we have fallen into the pages of a story book.
the Grimm Brothers based many of their fairy tales in the Black Forest and it’s easy to see why.

Cross your heart and hope to die if you don’t see the wicked Wolf waiting for Red Riding Hood in the cottage in this little clearing !!!

Our drive from Trier to Titisee was one of the most scenic I have ever undertaken. Serene and green is the theme.

Lake Titisee where we had booked a one bedroom apartment in Apartment Titisee is a charming, laid back lake town.

one of the highlights of the little lake town is this Cuckoo clock where at the stroke of the hour the dolls come out and dance.
Cuckoo clocks were invented in the Black forest and not Switzerland as most people seem to think. ( I did too prior to this trip)

We had booked the apartment via booking.com
Our choice was a hotel inside the Black Forest but because there was less time we didn’t get it. There was also a lack of information.
I would advise tourists going to The Black Forest to stay in one of the village soothe Panoramic Trail which is 48 km of sheer bliss
The route leads from Waldkirch over Kandel mountain (1243m above sea level) to St. Peter, St. Märgen, Breitnau up to Hinterzarten. An alternative: From Waldkirch to St. Peter through the Glottertal valley.

If you are able bodied hire cycles and go go all over the hills on your bikes. You can also load the bikes to your car carrier and use it at scenic intervals.
Since I couldn’t cycle we went by foot or car
The days so far had been sunny but on the day we left for Waldrich it was raining, foggy and with very poor visibility.
Fortunately because he has lived in the mountains from childhood my husband is very used to driving in these conditions but in a couple of places my heart was in my mouth.
We didn’t see much of Waldrich because of the mist but wherein for a treat in St.Margen

This church also houses a cuckoo clock museum but do check the timings from the link given below because we had to return the next day to see it.

A few minutes of silent contemplation in the church and we were ready for the next leg of the Panorama trail

I don’t think words are needed here. A picture is worth a thousand words and I shall let them do the talking

The truly majestic church! It’s spires could be seen for miles around

Our next stop was Glotteral and I fell in love with this sleepy village.
My recommendation to anyone would be to stay in this village
Once again a beautiful church but nowhere as big as in St Peters
