It is traditionally believed that the church was built over the cave where the Holy Family rested after their journey to Egypt. It is this crypt where the Holy Family, Joseph, Mary, and the infant Jesus Christ, rested that is the main attraction of the church.
The wooden screen in the central sanctuary dates back to 13th c.
What fascinated me were the icons, displayed a brown haired Jesus. These icons were painted between 14-18th century.
