Our first glimpse of Freiburg as we drive in

and of course the ever present McDonalds

our lunch because we were feeling a little homesick was thali in Punjab restaurant

The owner’s brother a very homesick but talkative Sardarji kept the conversation flowing throughout the lunch.
He had been there for 3 years now ( his brother for 20+ and married to a German lady).
One thing struck me. He said that however little money or status one has in Germany, the Germans know how to enjoy. Work like a dog in the week and party on the weekends.
Whereas he said even the richest person in his home town, however many Porsche he has standing outside is always worrying about how secure he is, how secure his family is and how secure his wealth is from thieves and govt officials.

the steeple of the Munster comes before you as you turn in from the narrow street and you are never the same again.

I found these little chapels where we could burn a candle so serene and peaceful

The Munster square is a very lively place with restaurants and a museum

Along the quaint cobbled street that runs through the old town is the old and new town hall or Rathaus

Within walking distance from the Munster is the Frieburg Schlossberg

The Schlossberg (Fortified Castle) is a tree-covered hill of 456 metres (1,496 ft) located in the area of the city of Freiburg in Breisgau. It is directly to the east of Freiburg’s Old Town and belongs to the Black Forest

Its uphill work climbing but I can proudly claim to have done it and given below is the pictorial proof!

The tower located on the hill (Schloßbergturm) offers a unique panoramic view over the whole town and its vicinity, and was built in 2002 as a project of the board of trustees.

I did it!! I climbed the tower too!!

To prevent the bunker devolving into a Neo-Nazi shrine, the govt strategy was to ensure the surroundings remain anonymous and unremarkable.The immediate area was occupied by a small Chinese restaurant and shopping centre while the emergency exit point for the bunker (which had been in the Chancellery gardens) was occupied by a car park.

On June 8, 2006, due to the 2006 FIFA World Cup, a small plaque was installed to mark the location. The plaque, with a plan of the bunker, can be found at the corner of In den Ministergärten and Gertrud-Kolmar-Straße, two small streets about three minutes’ walk from Potsdamer Platz. Hitler’s bodyguard, Rochus Misch, one of the last people living who was in the bunker at the time of Hitler’s suicide, was on hand for the ceremony.

I wonder how India and Indians would have treated the legacy of someone like Hitler. Germany and germans very proudly apologise for all the atrocities committed by him as is evident from the various memorials
