The fun part of Kalinjar Fort are the ones away from the beaten track.

We walked quite a long way along the the fort’s rampart in search of a magnificent Gajantaka Shiva sculpture.
I will be posting more on that but till then here’s
the Mrigdhara or Antelope’s spring situated within an inner chamber of the rampart.
The name of thi ‘s mountain spring comes from a set of carvings of deer inside and outside the small room.

Inscriptions even given the names of the deer as Dina, Pandit, Vilochana, Mana etc.
The names of the deer are from 13th -14th century including inscription with a salutation to Nilkanth.

Near the mrigdhara is a 4th-5th century inscription recording the name of an administrative officer and someone named Aditya.
kalinjar fort has many water reservoirs or sarovars and kinds.
The source of the mrigdhara is said to be the koti tirth sarovar.
