Booking.com found us a hotel too. Brugger Hotel-Garni is a nice hotel, situated just at the beginning of the island. It doesn’t have it’s own parking but they give you a parking card for a car park just at the entrance of the island.

Having settled down we decided to go for a walk. The island is so tiny you can cover it entirely in a couple of hours!
The hotel backyard opens onto the Church Square. There are two big churches here: a Catholic and a Protestant church.

The Catholic Church of Our Lady or St Mary’s Church in Lindau. Notice the ornate pulpit and beautiful organ. I wish we could have heard the choir too!

A short walk and we are in Maxmillian Strabbe, lined with shops and cafes : a charming cobbled street for pedestrians only.

Just in front of the two churches in the Marktplatz is the charming Fountain of Neptune

At the far end of Marketplatz is the city Museum, which was opened in 1930.
Its situated in a house dating back to 1729 but in very good condition.

This baroque building, “Haus zum Cavazzen” on the market square was reconstructed by the builder Grubermann from Teufen following the town fire in 1729/30, and was regarded by the famous art historian Dehio to be the “most beautiful town residence on Lake Constance”. Though I didn’t see it from inside so maybe am not qualified to comment , to me the prettiest house was a charming three storey affair on Maxmillian Strabbe from 16th century

In front of the old rathaus is the charming Lindavi Brunnen Fountain

From here we walked towards the Harbour. The harbour of this quaint little island is spectacular.
Its guarded by the Bavarian Lion, who for some reason known to itself snarls in the direction of Seitzerland and the Lighthouse

From there we returned to our hotel as it had been a long day.
The next day we went to St Peter’s Church or Church of the Fisherman.
It has beautiful murals on the wall painted by Holbein the elder.
Today it is a memorial to the Unknown soldier.

Mangturmm: Some imaginative soul has strung Rapunzel’s plait from its upper window making it seem as if any minute you will hear the Prince call out, “Rapunzel, Rapunzel let down your hair.”

It was the old lighthouse, built to protect the harbour and was erected in the 13th century. The name Mangturm originates from the cloth or mangle house, which used to stand next to it.

The The Diebsturm

The Diebsturm, also called the Malefizturm or Stadtknechtsturm, was built around 1370 as the most westerly point of the old town wall. In the Middle Ages, it served as a prison

An innovative bookseeler provides volorful cushions for tired tourists to rest with discreetly placed books around them.

Since it was a bright sunny day we took the ship ferry to Bregenz in Austria . The view from atop the Pfanders mountain of the Swiss, Austrian and Bacarian Alps was touted to be awesome and it didnt dissapoint. See for yourself

The town of Bregenz itself is also very interesting with it’s churches and monasteries.

The MartinSturm a Roman Chapel has the largest onion dome in C. Europe. Today it houses the Museum of Military History.

And a beautiful evening in Lindau, adding gold and silver to the Bodensee.

Dinner in Wasserberg on Bodensee. A charming little town with a magnificent sunset on the lake and amazing fresh trout served with almond butter.
