this is the only place where Lord Rama is worshipped as the ruler, that is, a divine king.

The story goes that Rani Ganeshkunwari the wife of King Mudhukar Shah Ju Dev (who ruled from 1554 to1592), was a Ram devotee. He himself a Krishna devotee. This resulted in tussle and she was banished/ or left voluntarily for Ayodhya. There she prayed daily and performed severe penance, throwing herself in the Sarayu river in desperation, till the Lord himself appears as a little boy, agreeing to accompany her to Orchha.
When news of her arrival with Lord Rama reached Ayodhya a magnificent temple Chaturbhuj was built.
She Returned in 1575, on foot, after eight months and twenty-seven days.
In Orchha, the Lord became an idol. Since she was tired and wanted to spend more time with him she put him in her own palace.
The next day no one could shift the idol to The Chaturbhuj Temple ( image4).
Even today, he remains in the Queen’s palace, where he is worshipped as the king of Orchha, complete with a guard of honour and gun salute.

We weren’t allowed to click inside Ram Raja Temple so I only have of the palace gateway.
