The entire area of the Qila e Mubarak ( As Red Fort, Delhi was originally named) was dotted with buildings. Post 1857 the majority of these were destroyed and the character of the remaining ones changed.

A very interesting building is called the Tea Room. It is behind The Shah Burj and in the area where some Princes/ salatin had their havelis and the gardens were situated. From outside it looks like a colonial bungalow.

Chandrasekhar Tampi tells me that cafe functioned in thses tea rooms.
That’s fascinating and actually perfect place for it.
It’s normally kept locked but I got permission to go inside while researching for my book on Shahjahanabad. ( old Delhi) .
To my surprise inside was a double stories hall with side rooms, the quintessential Shah jahani cusped arches and what is definitely a later addition a fireplace!
It was dark except for some evening sun coming in from the windows so please excuse the quality of the photos.
