<p>An unknown shrine of two saints became the centre of a conspiracy theory that Jesus survived crucifixion and came to India and was buried in Srinagar.</p>

<p>this theory was first mentioned in 1899 by Mirza Ghulam Ahmad who wrote about it extensively in his book, Masih Hindustan-mein (Jesus in India).</p>

<p>The myth was compounded by writings of Dan brown and Ashwin Sanghi and locals looking to make a quick buck from tourists.</p>

<p>This shrine is however, mentioned in Tarikh e Kashmir also known as the Tarikh Azami (History by Azam) by Khwaja Muhammad Azam Didamari, a local Srinagar Sufi who wrote that the tomb is of a foreign prophet and prince, Yuzasuf, or in modern local Kashimiri transcription Youza Asouph.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="749" data-attachment-id="37469" data-permalink="https://ranasafvi.com/rozabal-in-srinagar-kashmir/img_9288-5/" data-orig-file="https://ranasafvi.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/img_9288.jpg" data-orig-size="1125,823" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;1&quot;}" data-image-title="img_9288" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-medium-file="https://ranasafvi.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/img_9288-300x219.jpg" data-large-file="https://i0.wp.com/ranasafvi.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/img_9288.jpg?resize=1024%2C749&#038;ssl=1" src="https://i0.wp.com/ranasafvi.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/img_9288.jpg?resize=1024%2C749&#038;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-37469" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/ranasafvi.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/img_9288.jpg?resize=1024%2C749&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https://i0.wp.com/ranasafvi.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/img_9288.jpg?resize=300%2C219&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/ranasafvi.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/img_9288.jpg?resize=768%2C562&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/ranasafvi.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/img_9288.jpg?w=1125&amp;ssl=1 1125w" sizes="(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" data-recalc-dims="1" /></figure>

<p>Locals believe a sage is buried here, alongside another Muslim holy man, Mir Sayyid Naseeruddin. The latter being a Shia saint used to attract Irani pilgrims.</p>

<p>In folklore, the name Yuzasuf is associated with the legend of Balauhar and Yuzasaf, in which Yuzasaf is a name for Gautama Buddha and it is possible it was a Buddhist holy site.</p>

<p>To prevent Western tourists coming because of the wrong attribution a quote from the Quran is displayed prominently which cites the mention of Jesus’ ascent to heaven in the Quran and Bible.</p>

<p>For security reasons it is now kept locked. So I could only peep in from the window and see a large grave.</p>
