The gorgeous Armenian Church in Isfahan also known the Church of the Saintly Sisters, calked Vank which means “monastery” or “convent” in the Armenian language.
Completed 1664
The interior is covered with fine frescos and gilded carvings . The delicately blue and gold painted central dome depicts the Biblical story of the creation of the world and man’s expulsion from Eden.

I had spent a whole day in Isfahan last year and seen so much beauty, yet the richly decorated interior of the Armenian Church took my breath away.
I couldn’t do justice to its beauty with my iPhone. So this is just a sample.

It is lined with two-story flats that contain 32 arched bays serving as shops. During Shah Jahan’s reign, the Chhatta Chowk was very exclusive, specializing in trading goods such as silk, brocades, velvet, gold, silverware, jewellery, gems and precious stones, catering to the luxurious tastes of imperial households.

Bazar e Musaqqaf translated into English means, “covered bazaar”. Its history dates back to the 17th century. It was inspired by another marketplace which Shah Jahan had seen in Peshawar in 1646.

ASI is currently restoring it. Paintings have been found under the layers of paint.
