Asirgarh Mosque, Asirgarh Fort

We often talk of the Jama Masjid of Burhanpur with it’s multi lingual inscription in Arabic and Sanskrit describing it’s construction.
What is not very well known is a similar mosque in Asirgarh fort built in 1590 CE by Farooqi ruler Raja Ali Khan also known as Adil Khan.

It was built before Burhanpur jama masjid and is approximately the same design.
Just like the Jama Masjid in Burhanpur, the Asir Masjid also has the builder’s name and genealogy inscribed in Arabic and Sanskrit!

The fort is atop a hill and one of the forts which was difficult to conquer by force.
It has three levels and comprises of three forts: the lowermost Malaygarh, the middle one Kamargarh built by Aurangzeb, and the highest and oldest part, Asirgarh.

The mosque is 935 feet by 40 ft and instead of a roof, it’s ceiling is created by intersecting symmetrical arches.
it has a huge courtyard and approx 1000 + could offer prayers here.
