Meru Jain Mandir in Shahjahanabad ( Old Delhi)

In Jainism, Mount Meru is a sacred cosmic mountain considered to be the center of the Jain universe. It is depicted as a colossal mountain with three distinct parts, each representing different realms of existence.
Mount Meru is symbolic of spiritual heights, cosmic order, and the path to enlightenment.
Jain cosmology places various realms on and around Mount Meru, reflecting the different levels of existence and spiritual progress.
Deep inside the alleys of Shahjahanabad ( aka Old Delhi) is a Meru Jain Temple.
It is based on the above description and is a feast of vibrant colours, soothing white of the marbles and a sense of wonderment for the first time viewer.
We visited it today as part of the Mughal Era Temples of Shahjahanabad for Tales of City , which I led.
It was built in 1845 by Meher Chand Jain and is located in the khajoor wali masjid gali.
