IMG8530

Yesterday i visited the Museum of Islamic Civilisation in Sharjah. Its a beautiful museum & since most objects are in fact in far away museums from their place or region of origin, it has explained concepts through models.
A sāqiyah, or Persian wheel, is an old water-lifting device that uses buckets or jars attached to a wheel. This wheel is turned by another wheel, usually powered by animals like oxen or donkeys. It likely started in ancient Egypt, Persia, or India around the 3rd century BCE and was improved by different cultures, including Islamic inventors like Al-Jazari in medieval times.
