Shahi Mahal: Mandu in the Monsoons

The Shahi Mahal built by Sultan Ghiyas-ud-Din Shah 1469–1500 is normally eclipsed by Jahaz Mahal but worth a visit for its exquisite ruins ‬

Especially when it’s raining, wind us blowing, and you are huddled under an umbrella trying to keep it from flying off

Rain water harvesting seems to have been a passion with these eco friendly sultans as tanks and Baoli abound here

‪Of course guide said it’s to cater for his many wives in the harem‬

#Mandu gained prominance under the #Paramara dynasty but had already become a hill fort by 6th century

#DelhiGate

This is one of the earliest surviving gates of #Mandu.

Since a metalled road doesn’t pass through it, it’s only used by locals who live around it.
