The Breakers in Newport, Rhode Island

The Breakers mansion was given its name for the waves that continually crash into the cliffs below.

The mansion was built as the Newport summer home of Cornelius Vanderbilt II, a member of the wealthy United States Vanderbilt family, in an architectural style based on the #ItalianRenaissance.

The grand staircase built with shorter steps to accommodate ball gowns of the ladies coming down to the ballroom in the great hall.
