Now you see it, now you don’t!
Walking down towards dargah of Sheikh Ahmad Bukhari I saw glimpses of a grand darwaza so went to investigate.
This was the estate of Shah Jahan ‘s Khan e Dauran.
Known locally as Bam Bam Bibi ka mahal as some devotee of the Sheikh lived here. She apparently kept repeating the words bam bam in state of wajd.
It’s known as Hathikhana in ASI records.
The culture ministry has notified this structure as protected monuments under the Ancient Monuments and Archeological Sites and Remains Act (AMASR), 1958 by a Gazette of India notification dated July 23, 2018 and it’s currently under restoration.
