Gada Mahal in Mandu is two storeyed building.
The ground floor has arched openings and apartments on the side while the upper storey has a hall and two antechambers.
There is a fountain in the Centre of the hall. The surplus water from which was drained out through a net-work of channels and spouts carved — heads of an elephant and tiger respectively, a feature peculiar. Hindu in conception, thus strengthening the conjecture of its association with Medini Ray.
It’s unique feature are two now fading and ruinous paintings in the south-west corner of the hall.
They represent a chief and a lady, may be the Rajput chief and his consort.
But I’m sure not many have a click of this lady’s now fading painting on the wall of one room of Gada Shah’s palace.
Though guide was convinced it’s ” It’s Shrimati ji.” Who I asked ” Roopmati of course!”
On the exterior of the edifice are traces of decorated panels and other designs in plaster.
