Nawab Mirza Khan popularly known as Dagh Dehlvi is famous for his Urdu ghazals.
Unfortunately after the fall of the Mughal Empire he had to leave Delhi for Rampur where Nawab Yusuf Ali Khan welcomed him.
In 1888 he left for Hyderabad. Here he became the court poet and mentor of the sixth Nizam Mir Mahbub Ali Khan who gave him the title of Dabeer ud Dawla, Faseeh ul Mulk, Nawab Nizam Jang Bahadur, Sipah Salar, Yar-e-Wafadar, Muqrib-us-Sultan, Bulbul-e-Hindustan, Jahan Ustad, Nazim Yar Jung.
He died there on 17 March 1905 and was buried in the Yousufain Dargah. His wife had preceded him and their graves are close to each other.
I had to hunt for it because I didn’t know where it was but it’s fairly easy to locate on the right hand edge of the courtyard.
His wife’s name was Fatima Begum ..
Fatima Begum was buried on Friday After Prayers and the heartbroken Dagh was heard saying Aah Aah (Alas Alas) at his wife’s grave ..
