Last year I visited the shrine of Gul Baba in Budapest.
Gül Baba was a member of the Bektás Dervish Order, who died in Ottoman Buda in 1541.
He died during the conquest of Buda, Hungary, by the Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent. Gül Baba was declared to the patron saint of the city.
His octagonal shrine was built Mehmed Paşa, between 1543 and 1548. It has a shallow dome covered with lead plates and wooden tiles.
It is the northern most Dargah in the world and very popular with the Turks living in Europe.
He is popularly credited with having introduced roses into Budapest and hence the name Gul Baba.
