Once upon a time, the nawabs ruled Awadh and it was a gentle land of opportunity and learning.
One such person who thrived in this environment was a tailor
Makka Jamadar was a tailor or darzi employed by the Nawab of Awadh, Nasiruddin Haider.
A very gifted craftsman he was expert in sitting angiya kurtis according to local historian Mr. Farid Bilgrami.
Angiya kurtis is a kind of bodice worn under the peshvaz and a well fitted one would have been much appreciated.
He was given the title of Makka Khan. Jamadar was his rank.
He amassed a great deal of money and when he retired he was granted his wish by the Nawab sahib to build a mosque and Imambara.
The Imambara called Makka Jamadar was the result of his dedication an passion. He personally supervised it and the glimpses of Lucknow ”s chota and Bara Imambara as well as Rumi Gate are clearly visible.
As per chronogram shared by Bilgrami sahib it was built in 1830.
Today it’s relief stucco work is in shambles, its painted roof has been blackened.
There are squatters living in it.
It needs help.
