Plate-12th century glazed ceramic from Kashan’Iran

Gorgeous isn’t it!
In 12th-century Iran, especially in Kashan, glazed ceramics with calligraphy became an important art form. These pieces often featured lustreware, with metallic glazes for a shimmering effect, and mina’i ware, using colorful overglaze painting. They displayed intricate calligraphy with poetic inscriptions and blessings in Persian or Arabic, showcasing the era’s artistic and cultural refinement.

Glazed ceramic plate decorated with dark brown and red Kufic inscriptions and groups of black dots on a light green background.

4th – 6th century AH/ 10th – 12th century AD, Iran.
