The Brandenburg Tor ( gate) was built in the neo classical style gate as a monumental entry to Unter den Linden, the renowned boulevard of linden trees which formerly led directly to the city palace of the Prussian monarchs, the Berlin Palace, also bombed and being rebuilt.
The Brandenburg Gate was severely damaged in the II World War and was fully restored from 2000 to 2002.

It was an icon during the Cold War days since the wall ran very close to it. Many historic speeches were made by Western leaders from West Berlin, including Kennedy’s ” I am a Berliner,” speech
On June 12, 1987, US President Ronald Reagan stood before the Brandenburg Gate at the heart of Berlin and delivered a challenge to the Soviet leader at the time. “Mr. Gorbachev, open this gate. Mr. Gorbachev, Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!”
It was celebrated the world over as a call for freedom.
You can sit in one of the many cafes in the middle and enjoy the sight of the majestic gate.
Or stroll around the area since its a no car zone.
You could visit one of the many souvenier shops and buy fridge magnets, pieces of the Berlin Wall, cups, t-shirts etc or if you can afford it visit some of Berlin’s most expensive hotels there.
