Is the Nizamat imambara Murshidabad the largest in India?
The present Nizamat Imambara was built in 1847 AD by Nawab Mansour Ali Khan.
It’s 680 feet long with three wings.
The central one has the Medina with the tazia and Alam, the old Imambara was primarily made up of wood. The plot where this Imambara had been built was dug to a depth of 6 feet. It was refilled with soil which was brought from Mecca that the poor members of the Muslim community could have an experience of Hajj.

Other parts of the imambara
It was built after the old Imambara built by Nawab Sirajuddaula was destroyed by the fires of 1842 and 1846.
It is situated just opposite the HazarduariPalace hardly a few feet away from the Bhagirathi River.
The building is difficult to capture in one shot.
The zuljana who is thr representative of Imam Hussain ‘s horse. No one rides him ever and apart from Muharram months he’s left to graze.
