Like everything else in life our places of worship reflect the place we live in or in other words it the regional influences that define our sacred places & dress & clothes & so on.
When the Mishkal mosque was built in Calicut in the 14th century by the Arab trader Nakhooda Mishkal, he didnot have too many reference points in India.
It was built with arches in the gopuram-style showing heavy local architectural influence. The mosque has 24 intricately carved wooden pillars and 47 doors, accommodating around 400 worshippers in its spacious prayer hall.
Remember that the Masjid e Nabwi When built in 622 CE, was a modest structure primarily made of mud bricks and palm trunks, featuring a simple flat roof made from palm leaves and beaten clay, supported by palm tree trunks.
The first mosque of india is Cheruman Juma built in kerala in 629 & i have yet to visit it.is
