Rana Safvi is an Indian historian, writer, scholar, and translator based in Delhi, known for her deep commitment to documenting India’s rich cultural heritage and pluralistic traditions. Over the course of her career, Safvi has built a remarkable portfolio of eleven books spanning culture, history, and India’s monuments, with notable titles including Tales from the Quran and Hadith, A Saint, a Folk Tale and Other Stories, and In Search of the Divine: Living Histories of Sufism in India.
She is also a respected translator who has brought important Urdu works into English, including Sir Syed Ahmad Khan’s seminal work on Delhi’s monuments, Asar-us-Sanadid.
A passionate advocate for India’s Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb — the syncretic, composite culture born of Hindu and Muslim traditions and was honored with the Yamin Hazarika Woman of Substance Award in 2020.
